Welcome to the Knowledge Bridge
On this site you’ll find a wide range of resources to help news executives in emerging markets develop digital news businesses.
Our priority is to provide practical, relevant and timely information, materials that can be used by news leaders to develop digital products, generate digital revenues and make informed decisions about their digital business.
Most of the guides, outlines and slideshows are taken from training materials created for Media Development Investment Fund consultancies, and have already been shown to be effective learning tools for news organisations in transitional countries. Others have been specially created to provide actionable insight into critical digital issues or step-by-step how-to guides.
The Knowledge Bridge aims to provide resources for every stage of the digital journey, from organisations just setting out on the road to transition to established players. For example:
■ The questions you have to ask before deciding on a paywall: To charge or not to charge for access to online content on your website? A guide to the arguments for and against to help news organisations find the answer that best suits their business.
■ Growing Your Online Business: A guide to the trends and techniques available to traditional local newspaper publishers and local TV broadcasters to grow their online business, both the size of their audience and the opportunity for increased online revenue. (Seminar participants: Russia, Ukraine)
■ Building a Web Plan: How radio broadcasters and producers can develop sustainable online websites for their radio operations. (Seminar participants: Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Pakistan, Nepal, and Afghanistan)
The content of this site combines the core materials of MDIF’s trainings and the most actionable articles from its previous incarnation as a blog on the trends and developments in the digital news business.
We hope you will find the resources a useful support to your news business. Let us know if you have any comments or if there’s any issue you’d like us to cover.
